Description

A Killer, a Cocktail and a Splash of Tango is a fun mystery with a historical twist, lots of cocktails, some deep philosophy, and a tango-dancing ghost by the author who made a sensational splash with her first book Obituary Cocktail. Kay Scott is ready for a fresh start after the end of a bad relationship. She plans to stop being boring, timid, and overly intellectual and have fun for a change. While moving into her new apartment in the French Quarter, Kay finds a photograph of a bewitching young woman in Victorian dress with “La Mariposa, 1913,” written on the back. Kay will eventually uncover Mariposa’s tragic tale of love and tango in Old New Orleans and that the portrait is a lost work of the enigmatic Storyville photographer E. J. Bellocq. With a new degree in writing and a desperate need to pay the rent, Kay starts on her first freelance assignment, a story on haunted New Orleans. Even though it’s a fluff piece and she doesn’t believe in ghosts, Kay wants to make the story thoughtful and maybe even important. She asks a paranormal scientist to help with some background on local hauntings. At his office Kay meets the ghost hunter’s hunky assistant, Paul. Kay turns to Paul for help when she hears footsteps and screams in her own apartment and thinks she’s being stalked. The man Kay lived with for the last three years, Marty, is a psychiatrist who evaluates criminals for the DA’s office. One of them, Jay Terrell, is a suspected serial killer. While police try to tie him to the murders, a new victim is found with Terrell’s MO. When Marty goes missing, Kay fears Terrell is the culprit. Things get ominous when police show up and Kay learns about Marty’s sinister past. They believe Marty is the real serial killer and that he tried to frame Terrell. Most of what Kay knew about Marty was a lie and she is in danger. To keep from being the next victim, Kay turns the tables and becomes the stalker. When she is attacked, help comes from an unexpected source, the ghost of La Mariposa.
